McKinney Chess on the Square - Chess shows that success rewards hard work. The more you practice, the better you'll become. Chess promotes imagination and creativity. It encourages you to be inventive. There are an indefinite amount of beautiful combinations yet to be constructed. Come ready to learn and have fun.
Novice-Designed for the beginner to learn all the fundamentals of chess. Learn the rules, piece values, basic openings, basic checkmates, stalemate & en passant. Focus will be on playing a complete chess game and mastering fundamentals.
Intermediate - This class is for those who know how to play and want to improve their chess game. Continue learning principles, chess notation, tactics, strategies, checkmate patterns, along with endgame theory.
Advanced - This class is an extension of the intermediate course. With emphasis on tactical patterns, middle and end game theory.
Chess Lessons Wednesdays March 21-May 9 (8 lessons) $89 Resident/$94 Non-resident plus $35 activity fee (includes t-shirt, membership, tournament fee, and book) Novice 4-5pm, Intermediate 5-6pm, Advances 6-7pm.
Open Play Wednesdays March 21-May 9 (8 weeks) $20 Individual, $5 drop-in, or $40 Family, come and go, 4-7pm
Scholastic K-12 Chess Tournament 3 rounds, May 16th 4-8pm
$15 Entry Fee if preregistered by Friday, May 12, otherwise $25. Check in 4-4:30pm, USCF membership required starting at $8 and can be purchased at the tournament or on-line at www.uschess.org. Please include USCF Id# if known, school, grade, and email/phone contact info.
